Tipsy Tow Stays Busy Over Holiday Weekend: MyFoxPHOENIX.com

AAA ArizonaMemorial Day marked the unofficial start of summer, as well as a new partnership to encourage drivers to celebrate responsibly by not drinking and driving. AAA Arizona began its partnership with the Beverage Alcohol Community Information Council (BACIC) to deliver its Tipsy Tow service to summer socialites who celebrate a little too much. This partnership will continue throughout the year providing an alternative for drivers who need a ride home after a night out.

To take advantage of Tipsy Tow, drivers, passengers, party hosts, bartenders and/or restaurant managers should:

• Call 1-800-AAA-HELP (1-800-222-4357) between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. on specified holidays.

• State that they need a “Tipsy Tow.”

• Provide the driver’s name, home address, phone number and vehicle/driver location.

AAA’s partnership with BACIC aims to strengthen the Tipsy Tow program by expanding outreach, mitigating club costs, and ultimately, saving more lives.

AAA and BACIC share in their mission to encourage the public to seek safe, responsible routes home from bars, restaurants or parties.

Tipsy Tow provides a one-way ride for the driver, one passenger and their vehicle at no cost for up to 10 miles. Services will not be provided to motorists requesting a tow to another drinking establishment or to a destination other than their home. A tow to a hotel may be allowed if the motorists is, or plans to become, a guest.

Other services that will not be provided include: requests for a vehicle start, flat tire change, gas delivery and/or taxi service. For trips longer than 10 miles, motorists can expect to be charged the towing company’s standard rate.

“It is important that people know their options when out enjoying drinks with friends so responsible decisions can be made. One fundamental purpose of BACIC is educating consumers of the many opportunities to safely celebrate in Arizona’s eating and drinking establishments,” said Steve Chucri, Chairman of the Beverage Alcohol Community Information Council. “We are proud to join with AAA on the Tipsy Tow program and feel this partnership represents different sides of the industry coming together to create an entertaining social atmosphere for consumers that takes a big step in working to ensure responsible beverage enjoyment.”
